Malawi pledges free and fair polls, commends Madagascar
Malawi has pledged to hold a free and fair election this
year in line with the Southern African Development Community (SADC)
guidelines and principles.
“We will adhere to the SADC Principles and Guidelines governing the holding of Elections…” said Ephraim Mganda Chiume, Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation minister when he opened the 2014 SADC Council of Ministers Meeting in Lilongwe.
”We look forward to your [SADC] usual support by coming to observe the polls,” he said
The Minister also commended the government of the Republic of Madagascar for holding peaceful and credible elections in October and December 2013.
“The election of President Hery Rajaonarimampianina and the restoration of the constitutional order is a great achievement not only for the Malagasy people but also for the SADC, the African Union as well as the international community,” said Chiume.
The two-day meeting seeks to address key issues concerning the SADC integration agenda as well as institutional matters.–LONESS GWAZANGA, March 11 2014, Mana.
